Underneath the peace, love and gentle vibes of the 60s existed the Edgar Broughton Band. A band that were extremely rebellious, anarchic and serious about the social and political injustices of the day. The Edgar Broughton Band recorded five albums for EMIs Harvest label between 1969 and 1973. Their lyrics were always thoughtful and often thought provoking, accompanied by music of great originality. The brothers Broughton: Rob on guitar and vocals and Steve on drums, along with Arthur Grant on bass and vocals became flag wavers for any radical cause that needed their support. Along with Hawkwind and the Pink Fairies, the Broughtons were the first of the proto-punks, ploughing their furrow nearly a decade before Lydon and co. burst forth onto the 70s music scene.
