Boyz II Men were arguably the best that 1990s
R&B had to offer. Their debut album,
Cooleyhighharmony, established them as major hitmakers, scoring no less than four hit singles, and set the path for even further phenomenal success.
"End of the Road," from the film
Boomerang, spent a record-breaking 13 weeks at the top of the
Billboard pop chart, a record only to be shattered by
Whitney Houston's version of
"I Will Always Love You," and later by two more
Boyz II Men songs --
"I'll Make Love to You" and the
Mariah Carey collaboration
"One Sweet Day." Following
"End of the Road," the quartet scored another Top Five hit with the shimmering
a cappella remake of
"In the Still of the Nite." As a result,
Cooleyhighharmony was reissued in this version, which not only includes the entire original
Cooleyhighharmony, but also
"End of the Road" and
"In the Still of the Nite." Also included is a Spanish version of
"End of the Road" (which is surprisingly not as atrocious as one would imagine), as well as the radio version (with instruments as opposed to pure
a cappella) of their massive second hit,
"It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday," a funky,
house remix of their first hit,
"Motownphilly" (unfortunately a great sound that they never further explored), a remix of the single
"Sympin'," and the sequel version to their Top 20 hit,
"Uhh Ahh." The only complaint is that the sequel is sequenced before the original. Other than that, this version of an already stellar album is a must, and stands as the some of the best, if not the best, of 1990s
pop/
R&B.
