For its third appearance on
PlayStation 3, the
NHL 2K series introduces a new control scheme designed to simplify the complicated moves associated with previous installments. Other changes include several refinements to the presentation, with new crowd animations, pre-game introductions, game summaries, user-controlled celebrations, and yes, playoff beards.
Randy Hahn and
Drew Remenda handle the new play-by-play and color commentary, respectively, and the on-ice action incorporates over 1,400 animations for more lifelike displays of athleticism.
Exclusive to the
Xbox 360 and
PlayStation 3 versions is a feature entitled "Reel Maker." Fans can record clips of their favorite dekes, checks, and goals, edit them, and upload the results online for the community to review. For a whimsical break from the main game, you can partake in a Zamboni driving challenge that involves quickly cleaning a series of rinks before time expires. The 2K Beats soundtrack features such artists as
Pennywise,
Bad Religion,
the Offspring,
NOFX,
the Ramones,
Inner Circle,
Mastodon,
Operation Ivy, and
High on Fire.
