It's unclear what makes the sweeping overhead pass of a 747 that opens Hollywood Sound Effects suitable only for the silver screen; like the sounds of private jets and 707s that follow it, the 747 sound effect could just as easily appear on Sounds of Your Favorite Airport or Listen! It's Modern Aviation! Nevertheless, these are the sounds that open Hollywood Sound Effects, an entertaining, wide-reaching collection of audio bits from Peter Pan Industries. Farm animals, crying babies, the sounds of battle, falling rain, cracking whips, and screaming monkeys all make it into the set. Standouts include "Chicken Coop (Busy)," which is like Grand Central Station in comparison to the relative calm of "Chicken Coop." Later, there's a classic sound effect album sequence featuring various human noises. "Man Belching," "Man Laughing," and "Woman Giggling" are highlights, but best is "Man and Woman Sighing," which sounds like an a cappella performance art piece. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide
